Replanting is underway.

The seventeen acre estate vineyard is undergoing a change. Planted to the venerable Wente Chardonnay clone for twenty four years, Mother Nature is forcing our hand.

In addition to Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc are being planted to take advantage of our five distinct soil types.

Closer spacing and rigorous clonal selection will combine to maximize our exceptional terroir.

Rebirth

Old vines were removed in
September 2001,
the ground ripped
and cross ripped four feet deep.

Winter ground cover was planted,
barley, vetch, legumes,
then covered with straw to
combat the rains.

In early summer
rows were laid out and
rootstock planted.

In mid-September after rigorous
clonal selection, fourteen inch
budding canes from fruiting
vines from a neighboring
vineyard were cut.

Brothers Rogelio and Rafael Carrillo,
master budders, chip bud
nine hundred vines a day.
